From the fabulous local cuisine and landscape to its historical ruins…
Greece has an immense range of local experiences awaiting your discovery. Here are five reasons you should plan to visit sooner, rather than later.
The Food. Honestly, anywhere you travel, the first thing you should check out is the local cuisine; this is even truer in Greece. The great thing about the food here is that it is perfect for both meat eaters and vegetarians. The local dishes put a heavy spotlight on fish, vegetables, and beans, as well as the traditional lamb and goat dishes. There are also a number of fresh produce stands throughout most villages and some of the best baklava you will find on the planet.
The Landscape. From the beautiful mountain views to bright blues of the beach waters, Greece offers a visually outstanding landscape. Unique to the islands are towns carved out of mountainsides which house bright white homes, their blue and golden domes that look like images from the National Geographic website.
For the Ruins. You have an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the Ancient Greeks since many historical sites and ruins are still available to tour. The Acropolis in Athens is a perfect example of what Ancient Greeks were able to achieve architecturally. The fact that any part of this structure still stands says a lot about their vision and ability to create. Other places to explore include Olympia, Epidaurus, Sparta, and Delphi.
The Islands. Whether you are visiting Milos, Crete or all the islands in between, you can expect to have beautiful views and sometimes other-worldly experiences. The islands differ in personality, some more commercial than others. Whichever island you chose to visit or explore, you are bound to find a place of beauty and a number of photo opportunities.
The Beaches. You cannot visit Greece and not spend a little time on one of the beautiful beaches. As each island has its own personality, so do the beaches. Some beaches have soft sand in which you can sink your toes, while others are covered in small seashells and pebbles that make it more difficult to navigate. The water can vary in color from clear and blue to more of a greenish-blue/turquois hue, depending on where you chose to frolic. Regardless of which beach you chose, you are guaranteed to have a beautiful view and awesome experience.
