If you have ever been to Maui you know that you would be hard pressed to pick one single reason to visit the island. With its beautiful beaches, intoxicating sunsets, and overall island charm it is even harder to pick a reason NOT to visit. Here are a few of our favorite things about Hawaii’s most popular Island.
The Seemingly Unlimited Beaches.
Maui has more swimmable beaches than any of the other Hawaiian Islands. This means you could pick a different beach every day of the week of your visit and never have to go to the same place more than once. For those who enjoy the aesthetically pleasing aspects of their surroundings, let us not forget to mention the fact that you have a variety of sand colors on the beaches as well. Depending on which location you chose you can sit on a white, black or red sandy beach while you enjoy the clear blue waters of the shoreline.
Whale Watching in the Winter.
Each year during the winter travelers and locals alike get to experience the arrival of a large population of Humpback whales in the waters between Maui, Molokai, and Lanai. These beautiful mammals come to the waters to mate and to give birth. In past years there have been as many as 10,000 of these majestic beasts in the water at the peak of the season. There are several businesses that offer Whale Watching Excursions that all you to get up close and personal with the whales.
The Culture.
The number one reason to visit Maui (or any of the Hawaiian Islands for that matter) is the rich sense of culture that you will experience during your trip. From the moment you set foot on the island, you feel the welcoming warmth of the island. Traditions that are observed at sunset and the overall commitment to tradition and history observed throughout the island add a unique charm to your visit.
The Food.
If the coastline and culture are not enough to get your attention, then just wait until you taste the food. Local dishes offer up the best of fresh fish, beef, papaya, fruit, and let us not forget the coffee. By the time you leave the island your taste buds will be so spoiled everything on the mainland will seem bland in comparison.
